Cutting Edge Technology Reduces Risk during complex neurosurgeries
Strategically placed iMRI provides real time imaging
Anderson Mikos Architects was retained by UChicago Medicine to renovate shell space into an intraoperative MRI (iMRI). At the completion of this project, UChicago Medicine became one of only 12 hospitals providing this cutting edge technology in complex neurosurgery. The iMRI enables real-time functional MRI scans, giving surgeons the ability to identify potential complications in just seconds. Historically, complex neurosurgeries required patients to be transported mid procedure to another floor for imaging which added risk and extended procedure times. The new iMRI suite was strategically placed on the surgical floor between two operating rooms reducing risk in addition to providing surgeons with real time imaging.
